Situated on the banks of the 'Nahr el Bared' river, which separates 'Doniyeh' from 'Akkar' regions, 'Ayoun el Samak' presents an endless array of breathtaking and picturesque views that will leave you in awe. The name is derived from the numerous water sources that feed the river and create these magnificent vistas. The area has historically been a major attraction for many artists and singers who have chosen its beautiful surroundings as the backdrop for filming their music videos. It truly offers a hiking experience that should not be missed. We have divided our hike into two levels:

Ghbaleh Hakl El Rayes Hike with Vamos Todos

This time, we will take you to Hakl El Rayes, located in the Ghbaleh area. This incredibly picturesque region is nestled in the heart of Ftouh Keserwan. Our hiking route was meticulously planned with the assistance of local residents in collaboration with the parish authorities at St. Antoine de Padoue. The latter is a historic convent and a charming wedding venue. During our hike, we will encounter a multitude of charming traditional Lebanese houses and pass by an old Lebanese eatery, Melhem's Restaurant, which unfortunately is closed today. We will also have the pleasure of admiring enormous bicentennial oak trees. Our initial stop will be at ancient Phoenician and Roman olive presses, carved into the rock and nestled in the shade of an ancient oak tree that has stood for over 600 years.

Wadi Harba Hike with Vamos Todos

Our next hiking destination will be Wadi Harba in Batroun, a newly established trail in an area where ancient caves are being uncovered. Wadi Harba is the valley that separates Batroun from Jbeil. It stretches from the seashore at the Madfoun bridge to the Saint Joseph Monastery in Jrebta and the Elige hill in Kattara. This valley was once part of the Wheat Road that connected Jbeil to Baalbek, passing through Elige – Kattara. In the times of the apostles, Wadi Harba served as the first Christian habitat, and they traveled along the old Roman road on the sides of the valley. According to some accounts, the apostles even made temporary stops in this area. Christianity spread through the valley in the first century BC, leading to the construction of numerous churches, sanctuaries, monasteries, and hermitages. It became a favored destination for Christian pilgrims. Today, efforts are underway to restore ancient monuments and churches, reviving the region's status as a pilgrimage destination.

Hamat Hike with Vamos Todos

Our next destination is Hamat, a village in the North of Lebanon, situated 61 km from Beirut at an elevation of 287 meters on the historic cape of Theoprosopon. We'll kick off our journey at Mar Semaan church, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and the mountainous cliffs. From there, we will ascend to the Saydet El Nourieh monastery. As we follow the road downward, we will enjoy mesmerizing views along the seaside road, ultimately leading us to the abandoned English tunnel constructed during World War II in 1943. We will traverse Roman roads and continue our adventure along the Roman trail until we reach another significant landmark, the Ottoman tunnel. Our scenic lunch break awaits at the Mar Elias church, where a Lebanese homemade lunch prepared by a women's association will be served. This location offers a view of the Mseilha fort, constructed in the 17th century to safeguard the route from Tripoli to Beirut. The fort perches on a long, narrow limestone rock near the Nahr el-Jawz River.

Beit Chabab Hike With Vamos Todos

This event is a unique blend of hiking and cultural exploration. We will be visiting one of the most extensive and charming villages in Metn, the picturesque village of Beit Chabab. The name "Beit Chabab" has its roots in Syriac, signifying 'the house of the neighbor.' This village has preserved its traditional crafts of pottery and bell manufacturing, which have endured into the modern era. In Beit Chabab, you will find the sole bell factory in Lebanon. Skilled craftsmen use a single mold to cast half-ton bronze bells, typically ordered by Christian churches in Lebanon to achieve specific pitches. This age-old craft has been passed down through generations within the Naffaa family, and we will provide a detailed explanation of the manufacturing process.
