Synopsis

Geneviève, a young Frenchwoman who works in her mother’s small-town umbrella boutique, falls for dashing mechanic Guy. Their brief romance is interrupted when Guy is drafted to serve in the Algerian war. Pregnant, Geneviève has to choose between waiting for Guy or accepting an offer of marriage.

Novembre 1967. Geneviève Émery vit avec sa mère, une veuve désargentée qui tient un magasin de parapluies à Cherbourg. En dépit de la désapprobation de Mme Émery, Geneviève aime le garagiste Guy Fouchet. Ils se jurent une passion éternelle et font des rêves d’avenir. Hélas Guy doit faire son service militaire en Algérie. La veille de son départ, Geneviève se donne à lui. Deux mois passent.
