Workshop with Roser Lopez Espinoza - Bipod 2024

Floorwork and movement research with Roser López Espinosa Friday 19th @ Abroyan Factory/Union Marks (10 AM - 1 PM ) Workshop in Beirut made possible with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Lebanon and Acción Cultural Española, AC/E through the Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE) Duration: 3 hours About the workshop This workshop proposes a movement approach from the basis of an articulated and creative body. We will take advantage of the rich movement capacity of the spine as a motor, to search on curves, spirals, twists, ripples and combined undulating movements, paying special attention to the functional use of our anatomy for our maximum movement potential. We will go through floor-work practices with rolls, glides and simple acrobatic movements. We will explore the combination of supports and weight transfers that will progressively unfold from initial subtle moves to shared paths of greater complexity. And we will put into practice the use of different eye ranges, detail, precision and playfulness. We can create a singular and meaningful movement vocabulary when we find our own sources: what moves us from within and how we connect to our physical imagination.

Tanzanweisungen | Moritz Ostruschnjak - Bipod 2024

Tanzanweisungen Friday 19th @ Sursock Museum (8 PM) Moritz Ostruschnjak Performance in Beirut made possible with the support of the Goethe-Institut Libanon & NPN-Nationales Performance Netz Duration: 45 minutes About the Company In 2020, he was awarded the City of Munich's Dance Promotion Award for his artistic work. Bringing a strong, dynamic, and fresh physicality into the German dance scene and framing it with his own way of political and social sarcasm. Moritz Ostruschnjak is without doubt one of the rising choreographers in Germany today. He developed his interest in contemporary dance through breakdancing. He studied at Iwanson International in Munich and with Maurice Béjart in Lausanne. This was followed by engagements as a dancer at home and abroad. He has been working as a freelance choreographer in Munich since 2013 and has created a total of nine productions of his own, most recently "Rabbit Hole" in 2023. His pieces have been shown at numerous European festivals and have been selected three times for the TANZPLATTFORM DEUTSCHLAND. In addition to his own productions, he also creates commissioned works, including the premiere of "TRAILER PARK" for the Tanzmainz Ensemble in 2023. About the Performance Moritz Ostruschnjak's solo TANZANWEISUNGEN with the ‘furious’ Daniel Conant is a firework of steps, turns and kicks. A restless sequence of diverging elements that overdraw, ironize and counteract each other and in combination lead playfully, yet relentlessly into the abyss. A must watch! Pique-Nique mise en scène Julia Kassar

The parents went out for a walk to the front lines in Downtown Beirut to visit their fighting son, not caring about the dangers of kidnapping, sniping, or bombing. There, they meet a fighter from the enemy side and he becomes their prisoner. His hostility soon turns into a friendly and loving relationship, as the two fighters are alike and no one wants war. This play, inspired by Arabal, which was rewritten and directed by the great playwright Raymond Gebara in 1999, condemns wars, their absurdity, the killing of innocents, and all forms of violence, in a harsh, sarcastic and poetic language at the same time. The situations, which are not devoid of humor, arouse in the viewer amazement and conflicting feelings between laughter and crying, sadness and joy. Re-presenting the play “picnic on the front lines” in times of war, is nothing but a tribute to the genius of a playwright whose works delve into the absurd and painful reality of man, for there is no salvation for man according to Gebara, except with love and peace. Among his famous sayings: “The boy who draws a bird cannot kill it when he grows up, and therefore it is impossible for him to kill his fellow man.”

Workshop With MORITZ OSTRUSCHNJAK - Bipod 2024

Saturday 20th of April: 3 - 6 PM @ Amadeus - Dance & Music School Workshop in Beirut made possible with the support of the Goethe-Institut Libanon & NPN-Nationales Performance Netz PRICE: 25 USD The workshop consists of two parts, dealing with Moritz Ostruschnjak’s choreographic methods of copy & paste, cut & mix, that combines extremely heterogeneous movement materials. "The copy & paste button will become our leitmotif. We will be taking on the present-day dictate of copying and moving from being an inventor to becoming a thief. Taken from the happy hunting grounds of the World Wide Web, every movement, every sound, every image will be a possible prey for us. From contemporary choreography to cheerleading, from the video game Fortnite to shampoo commercials, from viral dance moves to the globally marketed pose of Michelangelo's David.“ (Moritz Ostruschnjak) In part 1 we will start with a little warm-up, followed by the participants learning a short sequence of Moritz Ostruschnjaks piece TANZANNWEISUNGEN, which works choreographically with an extremely diverse canon of movement (youth culture, classic ballet, ballroom dancing, sports etc) in rapid succession In part 2 the participants will create their own short movement phrase based on Moritz Ostruschnjaks method copy & paste, cut & mix with which TANZANNWEISUNGEN as well as other Ostruschnjak works was created.

I woke up a Sweaty Human | Dalia Khalife - Bipod 2024

I Woke Up a Sweaty Human Sunday 20th @ Abroyan Factory/Union Marks (7 PM) Dalia Khalife Performance in Beirut made possible with the support of the British Council in Lebanon Duration: 19 minutes NEW CREATION About the company Dalia Khalife is a hybrid ; a performer/dancer, a multidisciplinary artist, and a scenographer based in Beirut. She examines psycho-physiological happenings within power structures, social events, and rituals, and their theatricality. She looks at the pivotal moment of rupture, the delicate “fine line”, the liminal space in between, revealing themselves as paradoxes and satirical contradictions, as entry points to a deeper understanding. She has performed in Lebanon, Italy, South Korea, Belgium and The Netherlands, and the UAE. About the performance In this work, Dalia Khalife sets her physical movements to the backdrop of her life-sized (sweaty) digital avatar, raising questions on the boundaries and liminal space between the human form and its simulation. The performance ties itself to her Beirut based project exploring “sweat” as a socio-political and paradoxical condition, set against the backdrop of Lebanon's recent economic collapse. It weaves a choreographic language from a bodily archive and contemplates how the body encapsulates the intensity of experiences like ecstasy, abjection, elation, and grief.

Dance is not for us | Omar Rajeh - Bipod 2024

"It might have been weird on many levels that I chose dance in a country that was coming out of a civil war, destruction, death, and loss. However, dance at the time seemed to be the most revolutionary, the most provocative, and the most confrontational." Omar Rajeh A new solo creation choreographed and performed by Omar Rajeh, where he takes us into his dance and autobiographical universe, looking into the ‘performance’ as an act of gathering and shared experience. The dancing body creates its own rules, its own structure, and its own inspirations, as an act of hope, in opposition to structures of power that diminish such dynamics towards an act of normality and fear.
