Workshop With MORITZ OSTRUSCHNJAK - Bipod 2024

Saturday 20th of April: 3 - 6 PM @ Amadeus - Dance & Music School Workshop in Beirut made possible with the support of the Goethe-Institut Libanon & NPN-Nationales Performance Netz PRICE: 25 USD The workshop consists of two parts, dealing with Moritz Ostruschnjak’s choreographic methods of copy & paste, cut & mix, that combines extremely heterogeneous movement materials. "The copy & paste button will become our leitmotif. We will be taking on the present-day dictate of copying and moving from being an inventor to becoming a thief. Taken from the happy hunting grounds of the World Wide Web, every movement, every sound, every image will be a possible prey for us. From contemporary choreography to cheerleading, from the video game Fortnite to shampoo commercials, from viral dance moves to the globally marketed pose of Michelangelo's David.“ (Moritz Ostruschnjak) In part 1 we will start with a little warm-up, followed by the participants learning a short sequence of Moritz Ostruschnjaks piece TANZANNWEISUNGEN, which works choreographically with an extremely diverse canon of movement (youth culture, classic ballet, ballroom dancing, sports etc) in rapid succession In part 2 the participants will create their own short movement phrase based on Moritz Ostruschnjaks method copy & paste, cut & mix with which TANZANNWEISUNGEN as well as other Ostruschnjak works was created.

I woke up a Sweaty Human | Dalia Khalife - Bipod 2024

I Woke Up a Sweaty Human Sunday 20th @ Abroyan Factory/Union Marks (7 PM) Dalia Khalife Performance in Beirut made possible with the support of the British Council in Lebanon Duration: 19 minutes NEW CREATION About the company Dalia Khalife is a hybrid ; a performer/dancer, a multidisciplinary artist, and a scenographer based in Beirut. She examines psycho-physiological happenings within power structures, social events, and rituals, and their theatricality. She looks at the pivotal moment of rupture, the delicate “fine line”, the liminal space in between, revealing themselves as paradoxes and satirical contradictions, as entry points to a deeper understanding. She has performed in Lebanon, Italy, South Korea, Belgium and The Netherlands, and the UAE. About the performance In this work, Dalia Khalife sets her physical movements to the backdrop of her life-sized (sweaty) digital avatar, raising questions on the boundaries and liminal space between the human form and its simulation. The performance ties itself to her Beirut based project exploring “sweat” as a socio-political and paradoxical condition, set against the backdrop of Lebanon's recent economic collapse. It weaves a choreographic language from a bodily archive and contemplates how the body encapsulates the intensity of experiences like ecstasy, abjection, elation, and grief.

Dance is not for us | Omar Rajeh - Bipod 2024

"It might have been weird on many levels that I chose dance in a country that was coming out of a civil war, destruction, death, and loss. However, dance at the time seemed to be the most revolutionary, the most provocative, and the most confrontational." Omar Rajeh A new solo creation choreographed and performed by Omar Rajeh, where he takes us into his dance and autobiographical universe, looking into the ‘performance’ as an act of gathering and shared experience. The dancing body creates its own rules, its own structure, and its own inspirations, as an act of hope, in opposition to structures of power that diminish such dynamics towards an act of normality and fear.
