Synopsis

In the 1950s, Saïd Effendi, a schoolteacher, moves with his family to a new home in a modest neighborhood of Baghdad after being forced by his landlord to vacate his previous house. In his new residence, Saïd Effendi faces social challenges with his neighbor, Abdullah the cobbler. Conflicts arise between their children, leading to escalating tensions between the families. As the problems intensify, Saïd Effendi himself faces a difficult challenge: achieving balance between raising his children and maintaining good relations with his neighbors and not resorting to violence.

في خمسينيات القرن الماضي، ينتقل سعيد أفندي، وهو معلم مدرسة، مع عائلته إلى منزل جديد في حي شعبي متواضع في بغداد، بعد أن اضطر لإخلاء منزله السابق بأمر من المالك. في مسكنه الجديد، يواجه سعيد تحديات اجتماعية مع جاره عبد الله الإسكافي. تنشأ صراعات بين أطفال العائلتين، مما يؤدي إلى تصاعد التوتر بينهما. ومع تفاقم المشكلات، يجد سعيد نفسه أمام تحد صعب: تحقيق توازن بين تربية أطفاله والحفاظ على علاقات طيبة مع جيرانه دون اللجوء إلى العنف.

This film was restored as part of the Iraqi Cinematheque Project, supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the Al-Hasan Ibn Al-Haytham Committee for Iraqi Visual Memory – Office of the Iraqi Prime Minister. The 4K restoration was completed in 2025 by the French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) from the original 35mm negative image and 35mm optical sound print.

تم ترميم هذا الفيلم ضمن مشروع سينماتك العراق، بدعم من وزارة الخارجية الفرنسية بالشراكة مع لجنة الحسن بن الهيثم للذاكرة المرئية العراقية - مكتب رئيس الوزراء العراقي، وتنفيذ مؤسسة Expertise France. تم إنجاز الترميم بدقة بتقنية ٤K في عام ٢٠٢٥ عبر المعهد الوطني للسمعي البصري (INA)، انطلاقاً من النسخة السالبة الأصلية مقاس ٣٥ ملم ونسخة الصوت الضوئي ٣٥ ملم.

The late Kameran Hosni was a pioneering Iraqi filmmaker and one of the most prominent voices in the history of Iraqi cinema. Born in Iraq in 1927, he embraced realism and a strong human dimension in his works. His landmark film Saïd Effendi, which offers an authentic portrayal of the struggles of ordinary Baghdadis amid rapid social transformation, is considered a cornerstone of Iraqi cinema. Hosni continued his career with films including Marriage Project and Room No. 7, further cementing his status as a filmmaker committed to telling socially engaged stories. Hosni passed away in the United States in 2004, leaving behind a cinematic legacy that continues to inspire Arab and international filmmakers.

كان كاميران حسني مخرجا سينمائيا عراقيا رائدا، وأحد أبرز الأصوات المؤثرة في تاريخ السينما العراقية. ولد في العراق سنة 1927، وجعل من الواقعية والبعد الإنساني جوهر إبداعاته. فيلمه الأيقوني "سعيد أفندي"، الذي يصور معاناة ساكنة بغداد في مواجهة التحولات الاجتماعية المتسارعة، يعتبر محطة بارزة في تاريخ السينما العراقية. واصل حسني مسيرته الفنية بأفلام مثل "مشروع الزواج" و"الغرفة رقم 7"، مؤكدا التزامه بالسرد الاجتماعي. توفي في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية سنة 2004، تاركا إرثا سينمائيا لا يزال يلهم السينمائيين العرب والعالميين.
