After years of creating theatre out of prisons, family wounds and difficult truths, Zeina Daccache begins exploring a different kind of theatrical production: something joyful, something she can dance to. But some unfinished family business has other plans, and soon Zeina finds herself revisiting the day of her father’s funeral and the colorful parade of people who were there to bid him farewell, each carrying their own story, claim, secret or surprise.

With humor, playfulness and intimacy, Zeina Libset Khilkhala moves between memory and imagination, asking what families leave behind and what we may need to bury before we can finally dance.

بعد سنوات من العمل المسرحي في السجون، ومن تقديم مسرحيات عن جراح العائلة والمواضيع الثقيلة، تستعدّ زينا دكاش هذه المرّة لشيء مختلف: عرض مسرحي مفرح، يمكنها أن ترقص على إيقاعه. لكن سرعان ما تظهر شؤون عائلية عالقة لم تحسم بعد، فتجد زينا نفسها تعود إلى يوم جنازة والدها، وإلى موكب الأشخاص الذين كانوا هناك لوداعه، يحمل كلّ منهم حكايته، ومطالبه، وأسراره، أو مفاجآته.

بروح من الفكاهة، والمرح والحميمية، تتنقّل «زينا لبست خلخالها» بين الذاكرة والخيال، متسائلة عمّا تتركه العائلات وراءها، وعمّا قد نحتاج إلى دفنه كي نتمكّن، أخيراً، من الرقص.

Through Catharsis – Lebanese Center for Drama Therapy, the nonprofit organization she founded in 2007, Zeina Daccache pioneered the use of drama therapy in Lebanon. Since 2009, she has produced and directed theatre productions with inmates in Lebanese prisons, including 12 Angry Lebanese (2009), Scheherazade in Baabda (2012), and Johar… Up in the Air (2016). These productions, along with the documentaries that emerged from the drama therapy process—12 Angry Lebanese, Scheherazade’s Diary, and The Blue Inmates—received international acclaim, with each film earning approximately eight international awards. The projects also contributed to advocacy efforts that led to significant legal and policy changes in Lebanon, including the implementation of Law 463, concerning the reduction of prison sentences for good behavior, and the passage of legislation protecting women and family members from domestic violence in 2014. In 2025, Zeina produced and performed in Li Chabakna Ykhallesna, a drama therapy play inspired by her own life and her experiences after 18 years of working in prisons.

She also implements drama therapy sessions and produces and directs theatre plays with several disadvantaged populations that lobby also for policy change, such as with Migrant Domestic Workers (Shebaik Lebaik, 2014) and residents in psychiatric hospitals (From the Bottom of my brain, 2013), and women advocating for women’s rights through Forum Theatre projects in 2025–2026.

In addition to her community-based work, Zeina provides individual therapy through her private practice. She also works with staff from corporations, NGOs, INGOs, and other organizations to strengthen interpersonal communication skills and enhance workplace effectiveness. Zeina teaches Drama Therapy at several universities in Lebanon and across the region. She has received numerous awards recognizing her distinguished contributions to drama therapy, social initiatives, advocacy, and community service.

زينا، من خلال الجمعية الغير الربحية التي أسستها في عام 2007، "كثارسيس - المركز اللبناني للعلاج بالدراما"، قدمت أدوات العلاج بالدراما المبتكرة إلى لبنان. ومنذ عام 2009، أنتجت وأخرجت أعمالاً مسرحية مع نزلاء السجون اللبنانية، من بينها «12 لبناني غاضب» (2009)، و«شهرزاد في بعبدا» (2012)، و«جوهر في الهوا» (2016). وقد حظيت هذه الأعمال، إلى جانب الأفلام الوثائقية التي انبثقت عن مسار العلاج بالدراما:  «12 لبناني غاضب»، و«يوميات شهرزاد»، و«السجناء الزرق»  بإشادة دولية واسعة، إذ حصد كل فيلم منها نحو ثماني جوائز دولية. كما أسهمت هذه المشاريع في جهود المناصرة التي أفضت إلى تغييرات قانونية مهمة في لبنان، من بينها تطبيق القانون رقم 463 المتعلّق بتخفيض العقوبات السجنية لقاء حسن السلوك، وإقرار تشريع لحماية النساء وسائر أفراد الأسرة من العنف الأسري عام 2014. وفي عام 2025، أنتجت زينة وشاركت بالتمثيل في مسرحية «لي شبكنا يخلّصنا»، وهي مسرحية قائمة على العلاج بالدراما ومستوحاة من حياتها وتجربتها بعد 18 عاماً من العمل في السجون.

كما تنفّذ زينة جلسات للعلاج بالدراما، وتنتج وتُخرج أعمالاً مسرحية بالتعاون مع فئات مختلفة من المجتمعات المهمّشة والمحرومة، بهدف دعم قضاياها والمناصرة من أجل إحداث تغييرات في السياسات العامة. ومن بين هذه المشاريع عملها مع العاملات والعمّال المنزليين في «شبيك لبيك» (2014)، ومع نزلاء مستشفيات الطب النفسي في «من كل عقلي» (2013)، بالإضافة إلى عملها مع نساء ينشطن في مجال الدفاع عن حقوق المرأة من خلال مشاريع «مسرح المنتدى» خلال عامي 2025 و2026.

.وإلى جانب عملها المجتمعي، تقدّم زينة العلاج الفردي في عيادتها الخاصة. كما تعمل مع موظفي الشركات والمنظمات غير الحكومية والمنظمات الدولية غير الحكومية وغيرها من المؤسسات، بهدف تطوير مهارات التواصل والعلاقات الشخصية وتعزيز الفعالية في بيئة العمل. وتدرّس زينة العلاج بالدراما في عدد من الجامعات في لبنان والمنطقة. وقد نالت العديد من الجوائز تقديراً لإسهاماتها المتميّزة في مجال العلاج بالدراما، والمبادرات الاجتماعية، والمناصرة، وخدمة المجتمع.

About Karim Chebli:

Karim Chebli is a Lebanese theatre practitioner, playwright, director, producer, and educator working at the intersection of performance, pedagogy, and social engagement.

He holds a BA in Theatre from Lebanese University, an MA in Education Administration and Policy Studies from the American University of Beirut, and an MFA in Performance Pedagogy from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a lecturer in higher education and maintains an active professional career as a playwright, actor, director, and producer.

His original work has been running and touring across Lebanon, Canada, the United States, Dubai, Jordan, and Paris, including Ghammed 3en Fate7 3en since 2023, Maamoul since 2024 and Jaret Ghaz Speciale since 2025.

كريم شبلي كاتب ومخرج ومنتج ومربٍّ   مسرحي، يعمل عند تقاطع الأداء المسرحي والتربية والمشاركة المجتمعية.

يحمل إجازة في المسرح من الجامعة اللبنانية، وماجستير في الإدارة التربوية ودراسات السياسات من الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وماجستير في الفنون الجميلة (MFA) في بيداغوجيا الأداء من جامعة بيتسبرغ. وهو محاضر في التعليم العالي، إلى جانب مسيرته المهنية النشطة ككاتب وممثل ومخرج ومنتج.

تُعرض أعماله الأصلية وتُقدَّم في جولات داخل لبنان وكندا والولايات المتحدة ودبي والأردن وباريس، ومنها «غمّض عين، فتّح عين» منذ عام 2023، و«معمول» منذ عام 2024، و«جرة غاز speciale» منذ عام 2025.
