Director’s Bio

Wassim Tanios was born in Rmeich, a southern village on the Lebanese borders. Growing up as the youngest of a large family, the influences of his siblings are evident in his films and music. Living in a country full of constant turmoil, pursuing one’s passions with honesty regardless of everything is crucial to his path and work.

ولد وسيم طانيوس في رميش، قرية حدودية في جنوب لبنان.

كونه أصغر فرد عائلة كبيرة، تأثيرات إخوته كانت محورية في ثقافته السينمائية والموسيقية.

كونه قادما من بلد يعاني من اضطرابات مستمرة، يرى أنه من الضرورة القصوى أن يتابع المرء شغفه

بصدق تام رغم كل شيء.

Synopsis

تتتبع امرأة النباتات المنزلية التي تُرِكت في عهدتها في أعقاب هجرة. وبينما تتحرك الذاكرة لترسم ملامح هادئة لجهود الصمود، تتحول هذه النباتات إلى بدائل للغائبين، فتبرز فجوة بين أولئك الذين بقوا ليتحملوا العنف الكامن، وأولئك الذين رحلوا ليفككوا الموت عن بُعد.

A woman tours the houseplants left in her care in the wake of displacement. As memory drifts to chart the quiet labor of survival, these plants become proxies for the absent, a rift emerging between those who remain to endure violence, and those who left to decode death from afar.

Carla Aouad is a Lebanese visual artist based in Marseille. Her multidisciplinary practice treats the afterlife of objects, words, and memory, the residues of collapse through a rhizomatic logic connecting the fragment and the chorus.

Ashraf Mtaweh is a filmmaker who lives and works in Beirut. He is a founding member of the Cooperative of Cinema Professions – Lebanon. He has worked in films, TV series, radio shows, photography and audio-visual installation.

Director’s Bio

Ahmad Naboulsi is an independent filmmaker, screenwriter, and multidisciplinary artist from Tripoli, Lebanon, whose work is grounded in the cultural and historical depth of his hometown. His films explore the human experience through themes of memory, transformation, and the hidden dynamics of everyday life. Ahmad’s work, spanning feature films, music videos, and installations, reflects his commitment to crafting distinctive cinematic narratives that defy convention. His short film “Black Mouse” and feature film “Edition 96” mark key milestones in his journey, with his latest docu-drama, “Red Thread”, exemplifying his passion for hybrid storytelling and his ability to capture the complexity of human relationships.

"ضيعة خارج الإطار" هو فيلم مقالي يتمحور حول صور فوتوغرافية التقطها الفنان في قريته في جنوب لبنان بين عامي ٢٠٠٨ و٢٠١٨. بسبب عدم قدرته على العودة إلى الجنوب، ومن مكان سكنه الحالي في الريف الفرنسي، يفتح المخرج أرشيفه، متسائلاً عن صوره الرديئة، ومستكشفاً علاقة جديدة بين الصورة والذاكرة والواقع.

VILLAGE OFF-FRAME is an essay film built around photographs taken by the artist in his village in South Lebanon between 2008 and 2018. Now living in a village in France and unable to return, he revisits the archive, questioning its imperfect photographs and exploring a new relation between image, memory and the real.

Born in Lebanon, Hassane Chami is an artist, filmmaker and writer working in experimental and essay films and writing about images and their meaning. He’s been living and working in France for 20 years.
