Synopsis

يعاود الفيلم زيارة مصر من خلال شخص لم يزرها قط، واضعًا في تجاور الزبّالين في القاهرة، الذين يفرزون بقايا المدينة المادية، وعلماء المصريات، الذين يفرزون ماضيها. ويتمحور حول المتحف المصري الكبير، متسائلًا: أي نوع من الانتباه يستطيع إحياء المُهمَل بدل الاكتفاء بحفظه أو إعادة استخدامه؟

The film revisits Egypt through someone who has never visited it, juxtaposing Cairo’s zabbālīn, who sort the city’s material remains, with Egyptologists, who sort its past. Centered on the Grand Egyptian Museum, it asks what kind of attention can reanimate the discarded rather than merely preserve or reuse it.

جلال توفيق مفكر، وكاتب حديد البصر والقول، وصانع أفلام. أخرج أكثر من عشرين فيلمًا وألّف عشرين كتابًا. خصّص مهرجان إدفا لأفلامه برنامجًا خاصًا؛ كما عُرضت أعماله في مركز بومبيدو وثلاث دورات من بينالي الشارقة.‏

Jalal Toufic is a thinker, aphoristic writer, and filmmaker, with over twenty films and twenty books. IDFA presented a Focus on his films; his work has also appeared at Centre Pompidou and three Sharjah Biennials.

Synopsis

مسافرًا يعاني من مرضٍ غريب، تصادفه ظواهر دينية ودنيوية في أرض سيناء المقدسة. عند لقائه بأرواح ورجال أمن وحكماء من القبيلة، يكتشف صحراء جبلية روحانية تهددها السياحة ومشاريع التحديث.

Amid Sinai's biblical land, a traveler with a strange ailment encounters a series of sacred and profane apparitions. While meeting spirits, police officers, and tribal sages, he discovers a spiritual mountainous desert threatened by touristic modernization projects.

Director’s bio

Maxime Hourani (b. 1982, Lebanon) is an artist working with time-based media, exploring themes of landscape transformation and shifting ecologies. His previous research focused on 19th-century Arab futurism, specifically focused on the question of posthuman thinking at the turn of the Industrial Revolution.

مكسيم حوراني (مواليد 1982، لبنان) فنان يعمل في مجال الوسائط الزمنية، ويستكشف في ممارسته موضوعات تحوّل المناظر الطبيعية وتبدّل النظم البيئية. ركّزت أبحاثه السابقة على المستقبلية العربية في القرن التاسع عشر، وتحديدًا على مسألة التفكير ما بعد الإنساني عند منعطف الثورة الصناعية.
